UWest Launches Bold Website with Good Citizen’s Creative Rebrand

ROSEMEAD, CA, July 17 – Good Citizen Media Group, South Pasadena’s Brand Storytelling Agency that serves the Not-About-Profit sector, was selected by Southern California’s University of the West to refresh the brand and create a new website. The rebrand expresses UWest’s whole-person Buddhist inspired academic foundation while attracting an international student-body that extends to at least 40 countries.

UWest is WSCA accredited offering Bachelor’s, Masters and Doctoral degrees in business, psychology, liberal arts and religion. UWest is a partner to Harvard Divinity School and Claremont School of Theology in their Chaplain PhD program. 

“Their old website was not having a positive impact on enrollment numbers,” said Good Citizen Creative Director Bill Burnett. “More importantly, the brand and position have evolved since the Hsi Lai Temple founded the University in 1992. We performed an internal forensic examination and brand analysis—those are the first steps we take. Then we embedded a photographer/filmmaker and shoot documentary footage.” Burnett takes a deep breath, “Organizing, writing, imaging and coding the 200+ page website was a huge undertaking. Luckily we were constantly inspired by the University of the West’s unique approach to education, focusing on Character, Community and Compassion. The world will benefit from their graduates, and we want to support their sustainability.”

“Online enrollment is the University’s #1 tool for reaching international students, and the new site is designed to deliver critical information combined with visual storytelling,” noted Debrah Lemattre, Producing Director of Good Citizen. “The films and photographs throughout the site create an immersive brand storytelling experience that potential students, who wish to make a life changing decision, will really appreciate.” said Lemattre.

The entire project was completed in less than one year. In addition to online design and imaging, Good Citizen Media branded the UWest campus with outdoor signage and is currently collaborating on the podcast series “Journey UWest” set to release Fall 2017.
