Problem: Video Needed for Grant

Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles had a chance to win a sizable grant for the architecture of their Neonatal Intensive Care Unit – Our task was to tell the story of an intensive care unit that successfully combines functional design with humanitarian delivery of care. Our greatest challenge: the deadline was one week away.

Solution : Postpone vacation and crew up

  • > Team | Cancelling her annual trip to Maine, our producer stayed behind to assemble a hot-dog camera crew to do their best work in a NICCU unit while wearing surgical masks and scrubs. In addition, we needed dolly equipment and lights that were light-weight, silent and unobtrusive.
  • > Challenge | Every CHLA logo had to be removed – on every computer screen and on every uniform — or the video would be disqualified. Naturally, we could not redress the busy NICCU unit for this shoot, so we had to mask out 164 logos in post production. It was an arduous task, but our experienced editing team seamlessly pulled it off and got the final video to New York before the deadline.

Result:
Video Wins CHLA’s NICCU unit prestigious ICU award!

Here’s what the press had to say:
Children’s Hospital Los Angeles receives ICU Design Citation — co-sponsored by AACN with the Society of Critical Care Medicine and American Institute of Architects Committee on Architecture for Health — recognizes intensive care units that successfully combine functional design with humanitarian delivery of care for the children.
